Add a New Phone to be Tested

Generally we have 2 ways a new phone will be entered into our DB.

  • The call center identifies phones newly available in the marketplace or the IOP team hears of a new device. These are entered as Available.  They will be evaluated for purchase.  From here, they will be either moved to Targeted (for purchase) or Do Not Purchase.
  • The IOP team receives a device directly from the device manufacturer or device carrier.  We know these will definitely be tested so they are entered as In-Queue, bypassing Available and Targeted.

Available

  1. From the Matrix Dashboard, click on Wizard: Add Available Device.
  2. Choose a Device Manufacturer (or create a new one), click Next.
  3. To add a new carrier to an existing device, choose the device in the drop down on the right.  To add a brand new device, type the name of the new device and select its device type on the left.  Click Next.
  4. Select the carriers from the list on the right side (or create new one on the left (RARE)).
  5. Choose OS, spec level, and other options (none are required).  Enter the launch date.  NOTE:  this launch date will be used for all carriers selected in the previous step.  Click Finish.

The device will now appear in the IOP Dashboard on the "Available" tab for the carrier(s) selected.  No IOP record is created and the device will not show up in Devices.

In Queue

  1. From the Matrix Dashboard, click on Wizard: Add In-Queue Device
  2. Choose a Device Manufacturer (or create a new one), click Next.
  3. To add a new carrier to an existing device, choose the device in the drop down on the right.  To add a brand new device, type the name of new device and select its device type on the left.  Click Next.

  4. Select the carriers from list on right side (or create new one on the left (RARE)).

  5. Choose OS, spec level, and other options (none are required).  Indicate if the device is preproduction, and enter the launch date.  NOTE: this launch date will be used for all carriers selected in the previous step.  Click Next.

  6. Set branding options for each carrier.  Selecting "Set Carrier as Manufacturer" will change the device manufacturer name to the name of the carrier. Selecting "Set Device Name to ____________" will change the device model name to the name you entered.  Selecting "Both" will change both.  (EX. Motorola XT235  --->  Verizon Blizzard if you had checked "Both" and put "Blizzard" in the Device Name blank).  Click Next.

  7. Select all appropriate modules from module list for the IOP region the device will be tested in.  The site is smart enough to know which modules are used in which region so only the appropriate combinations for each region will be created. Click Finish.

The device will now appear in the IOP Dashboard on the "In-Queue" tab for the region(s) corresponding to the carrier(s) selected.  This creates IOP record WITHOUT IOP test results, essentially a blank test form. The device will also appear highlighted in pink in Devices.  It is ready to be tested for all carriers and modules selected.
